You walk down a path parked Navian Swamps. You walk only a couple feet and then the forest clears. Beyond you seems to be an endless swamp, shrowded by a thick white mist. Dead trees with some sort of moss on them poke up here and there out of the reeds and seemingly lifeless murky water. But within your bleak surroundings, something catches your eye. A shining gold sign sticks up out of the muck. It says "Navia Lake". Navia lake? This place is a boggy wasteland. This is definatly not a lake. Beyond the sign, you see two golden fences with curly rails bordering what seems to be a path. You deside to follow the almost inviting trail. As you stroll down the pathway, you notice that although the path is much more solid than the surrounding marsh, it still is saturated by water and is extremely muddy. You slip once or twice while you are walking but luckly you grab the handrail before you slip into the unpleasent bog. You continue walking for some time but notice that the "lake" is pretty much the same all over. You turn around to head back. "Some lake. What a waste of time." you say quietly to yourself. "It was a quite lake indeed." You jump and look all around to see where the voice is coming from "Up here." Above you on a branch in a rotting skeleton of a tree was a strange, feline creature. It gracefully jumps down from the tree and lands in front of you. | It's head comes to your sholders. "Yes, it was somewhat of a large lake. But it wasn't technecly a lake. Just a widening of a river that used to run through here. Folow me." You follow the odd, catlike creature down the trail. "My name is Mobikemus but everyone calls me Moby." Moby explains. "I'm a Naviao. The lake was named after us; we lived in the surrounding forests." he contiues. He stops walking and scratches behind his ear with his hind leg, just like a cat. "Why did the lake dry up?" you ask. "The villagers. They built a dam upstream and diverted the river out of the Kaizay Wood. Being part of the river, Navia Lake dried up except for a couple of the deeper parts. Those deeper spots are now the Navian Swamps." he explains. He contiues walking and you follow him. Suddenly the fog clears and you see an odd sort of island in the marsh. A healthy grove of pine trees are growing on it. "Welcome to Refuge Island." Moby states. "Island? It dosn't look like an island to me." you say. "It used to be when the lake was still here." he replies. "Anyways, what is left of the lake is continuing to dry up. Us Navios eat the fish that live in the swamp to survive. There aren't many fish anymore and there isn't enough food for us. So alot of us have to leave the swamp. If you wish to adopt one of us, please continue following me." |
